Weekend Getaway

One of my favorite things about living in the Tristate area, is how easy it is to have a mini vacation. There are so many places to get away and have new experiences at an affordable cost. A few weeks ago, my sister, mom and I packed our bags, some snacks and hopped in the car to go to Hudson New York. My mom had gone this summer and said it was a beautiful place with lots of antiques, great food and some of the nicest people she’s ever met- she was spot on.

The Main Street (Warren Street) is home to many coffee shops, stores and restaurants. We found some of the coolest things, from vintage cheetah sofas and marble utensils to fancy pajamas and records. We browsed through every store, finding the most unique pieces. Around 3:00 we realized we should probably take a break from the shopping and get some food. We walked into a restaurant that happened to be hosting a Drag Show. We were told she was the oldest Drag Queen in the US, her costumes were absolutely stunning and her energy was hilarious. We got some comfort food, mimosas and sat by a lit fireplace.

After a late lunch we stopped by a wine shop, where the nicest man helped us find a delicious Riesling and cider. He saw my camera and we got to talking about photography, he had moved to Hudson recently, from Los Angeles. We chatted for a bit, bought two bottles and made our way to our Airbnb. My mom found the COOLEST place to stay, they are called Airstreams. It was the cutest space-looking tin can, in the middle of the woods. The community cabin was a large space with couches, chairs, fireplaces, a small bar and board games. There were so many families and dogs hanging around, playing games and enjoying the live music. It was so nice to disconnect and live in the moment, take in the stars and have a glass of wine by a fireplace.

The next day we had one thing planned- The Antique Warehouse. When I tell you, you could spend hours in this one place…i’m not lying. It was the biggest place i’ve ever seen, with absolutely everything you could think of. Vintage luxury jewelry, antique toys, rounded couches, lamps, even a full taxidermy giraffe for $45,000. Even if you just drive down for a day, this is definitely worth a visit. Whenever I buy my first house, I will be coming here and buying every piece of furniture!!!

We ended the day by visiting the Maker Hotel. This place is absolutely beautiful, they have a smaller cafe and a larger restaurant. We were sat in the larger restaurant which is designed beautifully. The entire room is made up of windows, there’s greenery all over and a view of a stacked bookshelf. We got some sandwiches which were delicious, but the star of the show was the room itself. It was the best way to end a peaceful and fulfilling weekend. If you are looking for a little getaway, and enjoy antiquing- I definitely recommend taking a look into Hudson, NY!
