Homemade Candles

This past Christmas, I wanted to give my family and friends something meaningful that didn’t break the bank. I wanted to make sure it was something everyone would love and make use of, and the one thing they all love- is candles.

I did some research for where to purchase all the products, Michael’s has many kits to choose from and also individuals like wax, dye, etc. I settled on a starter kit from amazon, along with a pack of glass containers since it was the most economical option.

The process itself is quite simple and therapeutic. Once you pick the scent you want and add the essential oils to the melted wax, you pour that into the pre wicked jars and wait for it to settle and harden. I opted to add dried fruits and flowers as decor. After that I topped off each candle with a bit more wax to make sure the flowers stuck. Here’s a step by step…

  • Melt wax, stirring occasionally (Make sure wax has cooled a bit, without hardening, before putting in jar)

  • Pour essential oils into melted wax (combine as many scents as you’d like!)

  • Add any dye color you’d like (a little goes a very long way)

  • Add wicks to empty jars with the provided metal wick holder (this makes sure the wick stays in place and doesn’t bend due to the hot wax)

  • WAIT!!!! for wax to harden. Be patient with this one, it’ll take around 20 minutes but you want to be sure it is fully set before adding any decor

  • Add your dried fruits/flowers/herbs. Once they are in the spot you want them in, add a thin layer of wax to set all of it in place.

  • Cut your wicks, light and enjoy!

Once I had finished all of the candles, I went around my apartment looking for ones that were crusty and rusty…you know what I mean. I had left over wax and wanted to give them a new life.

Gift giving is one of my favorite love languages. I absolutely love giving my family and friends thoughtful and exciting gifts that I know they’ll love. It’s a beautiful thing to be known and understood, and it’s a wonderful reflection of friendship. Gifting something homemade is especially unique, you can demonstrate your creativity and show how much you care.

Next time you need an idea for a gift, try making it yourself! Give them something talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before.
